  REVIEW:

Guess who the victim is in Scary Movie 4!  That’s right, Scary Movie 5 gets killed!!!

Scary Movie 4, of course, is a spoof on other recent movies all combined to sort of tell a story.  This one is based on a War of the Worlds type theme.  The house where the Tom Cruise (Craig Bierko) character lives is next door to the house from Grudge where Anna Ferris’ character lives while taking care of the old woman.  When the aliens attack earth, she learns from the demon child ghost in the house that she can save the world if she follows his clues.  She joins up with her best friend on her quest and lands in the Village.  She thinks she’s solved the mystery until the aliens attack the village and take her captive and meets up with Craig and his family.  They are kept in a Saw like room and use unconventional means to escape and defeat the aliens.   Of course, they couldn’t have finished this movie with out including some irrelevant Brokeback Mountain scenes, a jab at President Bush (Leslie Nielsen), some lame therapy from Dr. Phil, poking fun at Michael Jackson, and a scene on the Oprah show.

Scary Movie 4 is a collection of countless stars and celebrities in the worse roles of their lives.  It’s far more silliness than satire, delivering an endless stream of adolescent punch lines throughout an irrelevant story.  It lacks the underlying subtle genius that characterizes the classic spoof, instead just delivering the obvious.  There are a few laughs, but it’s only substantial redeeming quality is the movie’s apparent declaration that some celebrities don’t take themselves that seriously.
